Peacock (Peafowl)
Peafowl or Peacock is a most beautiful flying bird, The male peafowl is called a
*peacock*, the female a *peahen*, and the offspring is called peachicks The male (peacock) Indian Peafowl
has iridescent blue-green or green colored plumage. Peacock is probably the oldest known ornamental bird.
Peacock is the national bird
Peacock is the national bird of India. it is the holiest of
avian fauna and is associated with more than one God. The peacock was declared the National Bird of India in 1963 due to
its rich religious and legendary involvement in Indian traditions. The main criteria for this choice is that peacock is well-distributed
within the country and associated with Indian myths and legends
Religious significance In Hinduism, the Peacock is associated with
Goddess Saraswati(सरस्वती), a deity representing benevolence, patience, kindness,
compassion and knowledge. Peacocks have a special relation with Lord
Krishna, he wears peacock feathers on his head, and ties them with his flute. Peacock is also the mount of Hindu God of war
Kartikeya, the son of Lord Shiva (शिव) and the brother of
Lord Ganesha (श्री गणेश)
In Christianity , the peacock is a symbol of eternal
life. The Peacock symbolism represents the "all-seeing" church, along with the holiness and sanctity
associated with it. The Peacock represents resurrection, renewal and immortality within the spiritual teachings of Christianity.
In Buddhist philosophy, the peacock represents wisdom, symbolizes purity, and their feathers are used for purification ceremonies..
