  The President of India, Smt Pratibha Devisingh Patil  while inaugurating the 12th World Lakes Conference TAAL 2007 in Jaipur on October 28, 2007 said great efforts have gone into the rehabilitation of some lakes all over the world and improving their water quality. In this context a partnership can be formed between a lake in a developed country with a lake in developed country. The President said India has a large number and huge variance of lakes. Many of them are unique ecosystems and valuable from historical, cultural, biological and functional point of view. 
   Welcoming all the guests and participants Sh Namo Narain Meena, Minister of State for Environment and Forests said that the government of India is fully conscious of deterioration of lakes and two major projects for the conservation, management and restoration of lake sand Wetlands have started in India. 94 nationally important wetlands have been identified out of which 25 have been declared as internationally important under the Ramsar Convention.    
   The Twelfth World Lake Conference – TAAL 2007 is being held at Jaipur from 28th October to 2nd November 2007. With its central theme of ‘Conserving Lakes and Wetlands for Future’, this five day conference will provide a unique platform for interaction between scientists, researchers, technologists and policy makers from different parts of the world.

    The Conference comprises of many plenary lectures, technical sessions, key-note addresses on various sectional things by eminent scientists, oral presentations, poster sessions and working group discussions, together with a programme of socio-cultural events. The Conference has selected five major themes which are: Science and Lakes; Conservation and Management; Special Group of Lakes; Socio-Economic Aspects and Special Sessions.   
The Conference comprises of many plenary lectures, technical sessions, key-note addresses on various sectional things by eminent scientists, oral presentations, poster sessions and working group discussions, together with a programme of socio-cultural events.   Wide range of aspects will be covered in various sessions. They are bio-diversity and conservation, lake catchments, lake eco-system process, invasive species and wind control, lake wetlands and climate change, fisheries other use, Eutrophication and Modelling, Bio-remediation and Biomanipulation, Lake littoral Zone Management, Hydrology and Eco-hydrology, Community Participation, and Legal as well Regulatory frameworks. 
  These Conferences are organized under the aegis of the International Lake Environment Committee Foundation (ILEC), Japan since 1985. The Ministry of Environment and Forests is hosting the Conference with support from Government of Rajasthan. Participants from Russia, Australia, Austria, The Neitherlands, China, Denmark, Zimbabwe, Italy, Canada, USA, Philippines, Czech Republic, Poland and Japan will attend the Conference.
