Salman Khan household celebrates Ganesh festival

September 2, 2008 (Sawf News) - This year too the Salman Khan household will seat a Ganesh idol at their Bandra home during Ganesh Chaturthi, a tradition that is over a decade old and was started by Salman's father, renowned script writer, Salim Khan.
Despite being devout Muslims, the Khan household celebrates all major festivals with equal gusto. Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations span a day and a half and every single member of the family participates. Salman's youngest sister, Arpita, along with Salim Khan mastermind the celebrations and oversee the decorations, which include a lot of exotic flowers, inside the house during the festival.

"Every year Salman makes sure he is at home during the festival, putting his shooting and other commitments on the back burner. The first Puja after bringing the idol home is attended by relatives and a select close group of family friends. Last year Salman's Partner film associates, David Dhawan and Govinda, were a part of the first day Puja.
"Salman abstains from smoking and drinking during this period and enjoys the special traditional food that includes a lot of sweets made by his mother, Salma, a Maharashtrian; from Panvel whose maiden surname was Nadkarni."  Salman's brothers Arbaaz and Sohail and their respective families enthusiastically participate in the festivities.
"On the second day, in the evening, the Ganpati idol is taken for immersion nearby Bandstand. The entire family walks along together in a procession," the source concluded. Last year, besides celebrating the festival at home, Salman also participated in the special Puja at the famous Lalbaugcha
Raja Ganesh Mandal and donated an undisclosed amount.
