Sanjay Dutt
starrer Lagey Raho Munnabhai swept the 54th National Film Awards for
2006, winning four honours, including the award for best popular
film announced on June 10, 2008.
Shashi Tharoor, UN under secretary general for
Communications and Public Information, introduced the
film Lage Raho Munna Bhai at United Nations building in New York. Delighted laughter and loud applause broke out at the usually sombre United Nations building in New York during the screening of hit Bollywood film Lage Raho Munna Bhai that delivers Gandhi's homilies to the masses in everyday idiom.
During the screening of Rajkumar Hirani's film at the Dag Hammarskjold Auditorium on Friday, the members laughed and clapped at the adventures of Munna and Circuit, played by Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi respectively, as they go about realising the importance of Gandhi's teachings of
non- violence and Satyagraha in their own bumbling fashion.
This was the first ever of a full-length Hindi film at the UN.
A member of the audience pointed out that although it was customary for the UN to screen world-class films dealing with issues of social justice, this was one film at the end of which one felt like shouting out "What a great movie!". Another member, an economist, pointed out that the film epitomises what India has to offer to the world.
Boman spoke movingly about how the UN Charter is nothing but the language of Gandhi's heart.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh
too finally got to see the Sanjay Dutt blockbuster, Lage Raho
Munnabhai in Durban early this month. And Singh was impressed. "It captures Bapu's message of the power of truth and humanism," he said at the end of the film.
On his return from South Africa where he talked about Lage Raho as "a young man's discovery of the universal and timeless relevance of
the Mahatma's message Singh had told his aides that he would like to watch the sequel to Munnabhai
MBBS. This is only the third movie that Singh has watched since he took over as prime minister.
A management college in Nagpur has recommended students to compulsorily watch the film because apparently it
teaches a lot of management lessons. The film is an innovative teaching tool and show the teachings of Gandhi is a
very unique way which appeals to everyone.
This film starts with introduction of Mahatma Gandhi,
and even even the most ardent Gandhian would derive immense pleasure
from the absolutely riveting portrayal of the Mahatma. Producer Vinod Chopra, Director Rajkumar Hirani and actors Sanjay Dutt, Arshad Warsi, Vidya Balan and Boman Irani come together to bring you a hilarious, heart-warming story about the triumph of simple values like love, compassion and honesty in todays fast-paced world.
'Lage Raho Munnabhai' is a film that will make you laugh with tears, cry with joy and touch your heart forever.
Lage Raho Munna Bhai for whatever it has to offer is not only just
the principles of Ahimsa and Satyagraha, but also reminds us that anyone in the world can be a Mahatma,
through their committed lives for the sake of others.
